Next weekend kicks off Portland’s First Humanitarian Concert Series to support Mercy Corps efforts in Northern Uganda! It’s called “Voices For Silent Disasters” and will take place Nov 2nd - Nov 17th.

Portland’s music community is coming together for an unprecedented event!
35 of Portland’s top acts are donating their time and talents throughout 10 concerts to raise money and awareness for communities in the war-torn region of Northern Uganda and Mercy Corps efforts there on the ground. Free mp3 DM’s latest single

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

As promised here’s a link to the free download of Dirty Martini’s new single Waste a Little Soul. Pure pop baby.

Download here: Waste a Little Soul
It’s a 256k mp3 so be patient with the download.

Produced by: Dirty Martini, Gregg Williams
Engineered by: Gregg Williams
Guest musicians:
Chet Lyster - Lead guitar (Lucinda Williams’ new guitar player!)
Gregg Williams - tamborine

Dirty Martini’s comment about the song:
“This is one of our favorite songs to play live. We think it sounds like it should be the soundtrack to a pillowfight. Imagine the pillows and pink feathers flying and wine coolers getting knocked over. Works, doesn’t it?”

Dirty Martini will be appearing at the Aladdin theater on October 30th. More info at www.dirtymartinimusic.com

Raising Sand

Monday, October 8th, 2007

How cool is this? Robert Plant and… Alison Krauss?? At first glance this seems like a really really weird pairing but after hearing a track or two I think it totally works. The album is called Raising Sand and is clearly closer to Krauss’s world than Plant’s but as any hardcore Zep fan knows Robert has always been interested in “roots” music and the early days of Rock’n Roll. So in a way this CD makes perfect sense for ol’ Robert. It’s a weird juxtaposition to simultaneously read the promo for this release AND hear the scuttlebutt about the upcoming Zep reunion show.

Isn’t it funny how Plant, the “Golden God,” the 70’s sex symbol, mr. “squeeze my lemon” has aged so gracefully? When did he get so wise and articulate? What’s up with all this integrity he seems to be building?

Oh..and I dig Alison Kruass too. I once heard from a musician friend who shared the stage with her that she is a musician’s musician with conistantly perfect pitch and mad fiddle skills.

glumbert - Amusement Park Ride from Hell

O.k. this is completely unrelated to music but I couldn’t resist. This has got to be the most unrelenting ride of all time. It makes me wanna puke just watching it…and you gotta watch each rotation to the end. Chili dog and cotton candy anyone?
