Vicious Viper strikes

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

One of the cool aspects about working at Nemo are the insane antics that randomly happen every few days or so. Today was one of those special days. For some reason it was decided that some of the newer employee’s needed to try a spoonful of Vicious Viper Hot Sauce. All I can say is that the sauce shouldn’t be considered a “food” but rather a “toxin” or perhaps “poison”. It was the hottest goddamn thing I have ever ingested…bar none. NOT a recommended experience. Loads of pics here:

I Met the Walrus

“In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation.”

Floydian Slips Underbelly

Monday, August 18th, 2008

My attempt at a montage of the Floydian Slips underbelly. I’ve always loved how much STUFF it takes to put on a production of this scope.

Floydian Slips show last night.

Well I thinks it’s safe to say that it does not get any more epic than this. I made a few small mistakes throughout the show but I’d have to say it was my finest Slips performance ever (which is a big deal for me since I always get so freakin nervous playing at the Cuthbert Amphitheater).

Catch Al’s solo at the end.

Jerry Wexler dies at age 91

Friday, August 15th, 2008

It’s sad to hear that one of the greats in the record business has passed away. I think Wexler and his Atlantic Records partner Ahmet Ertegun are still the model for what a true AR / Record Exec should be. PBS recently aired a very nice and comprehensive tribute to Ertegun and it was evident in the documentary that Wexler had just as much of a fabled life. I’m sure there will be loads of tributes in the coming weeks.

I survived Pickathon

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Well year ten came and went and I’m still in one piece…barely. Being a festival organizer is a bitch. I don’t know how Bill Graham did it.

As with each year the festival keeps getting bigger and better and 2008 was certainly no exception. We had a record record and simply some of the best indie/roots/americana/country talent from around the world. I have several videos to post from my Pampelmoose partner Dave Allen. Here’s a snippet of Wayne “the train” Hancock playing an after hours set in the barn. THIS is country music.
