Be warned that this a long (but very interesting) interview.

NIN: Getting the new music model right.

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

I’m not a Nine Inch Nails fan but I respect the hell out of Trent Reznor for being a champion and pioneer of the new (anti) music industry model. Reznor simply understands how medium to large acts like NIN can go direct to fans with their message and their music. All the old industry paradigms are no longer relevant. CD? Don’t need it - digital downloads, vinyl (!), Webisods are the new content delivery channels . A full length album release? Don’t need it - rather than wait two years for a new release bands can issue a single, or remix, every month. Create a community, cloud computing for mobile devices, etc, etc. Trent is nailing all that and a box of chocolates.
